WFS spreads wings to Bintulu

KUCHING: Jun Wei Bintulu Wushu Club has been accepted as an affiliate member of the Wushu Federation of Sarawak (WFS).

This brings the total number of WFS affiliates to 11 after the Kelab Wushu Bandar Kuching, Kelab Wushu Saratok, Kelab Wushu Satok, Kelab Wushu Sekama, Kelab Wushu Rejang, Kelab Wushu Permai Timur, Kelab Zhong Hua Wushu Piasau, Kelab Wushu Sungei Merah, Kelab Wushu Jelutong and Kelab Wushu Serian.

WFS president Allen Wong Siew Poh, who welcomed Jun Wei Bintulu Wushu Club into the big WFS family, congratulated its president Jong Chin Wei on the setting up of the club in Bintulu.

He hoped that the club would be able to help WFS unearth more new talents and groom them into calibre athletes to be roped into the state teams for KPM, Sukma and national meets.

“We are in full support for Jun Wei Bintulu Wushu Club because Chin Wei is not only a committee member in WFS but also the state competitions judging chairman and an active propagator of wushu while he was a coach and committee member of the Kelab Zhong Hua Wushu Piasau in Miri.

“He is also young and energetic and has contributed a lot to wushu development in Miri.

“I hope that the respective school boards of management for the Chinese primary and secondary schools in Bintulu will strongly support Chin Wei in further promoting the Chinese traditional culture and wushu,” said Wong.

Jong was a founder member of Kelab Zhong Hua Wushu Piasau, Miri where he held the post of secretary for two terms.

The 28-year-old is the only Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) elite coach for wushu in Miri and is also a national coach and judge.

Meanwhile, other office-bearers of the Jun Wei Bintulu Wushu Club are vice presidents Ha Cheng Heng and Lee Lieng Khing, secretary Lau Yien Hee, treasurer Chai Wan Zhen and committee members Yek Chin Sang and Yek Chin Yu.

The schools under the club are SM Kai Dee and SJK Kai Ming with more than 60 students practising wushu.

Jun Wei Bintulu Wushu Club training venue is at SM Kai Dee and the training sessions are on every Sunday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm for primary school level while it is from 3pm to 5pm for the secondary school level.
