KPJ carries out CSR programme at Kpg Beradek

KUCHING: KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital carried out its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in Kampung Beradek here recently in collaboration with the village’s JKKK.

The CSR programme was held in conjunction with International Nurses Day 2019 with the theme “Nurses: A Voice to lead Health for All”.

General manager of KPJ Kuching Nurhazimah Mahat in her speech stated that the yearly CSR programme aims to promote health awareness and the importance of regular health screening, especially to rural folks besides strengthening relationship with the community.

“The hospital is really concerned about the community’s health. We are here today to educate and foster awareness on the importance of maintaining health,” she said.

Medical Officer Dr Masni Megey who delivered a health talk on “Penyakit Tiga Serangkai” or “Three Chain Diseases”, commonly known as Diabetes mellitus, hypertension and heart coronary disease said these preventable diseases are often associated with daily lifestyle and food intake.

“If not detected early or left untreated, it can cause heart attack or heart failure leading to dead,” she said.

“Hence, adopting a healthy lifestyle, undergoing health screening at least once a year at a nearby clinic and getting treatment immediately are ways to avoid and prevent these silent killers,” she said.

Free basic health screening for sugar level and blood pressure check was given while an infection control nurse gave hand hygiene tutorial. Other activities included lucky draws and a colouring contest for children.

The hospital also donated cash and kitchen supplies to five families in and around the village.

The CSR programme was supported by Cats FM and Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan Sri Muara, Muara Tebas.

Demak Laut assemblyman Hazland Abang Hipni was also present at the programme.
