The villagers of Kampung Usahajaya in Tukau really hope that the Sarawak government would hear out their appeal.

MIRI: The villagers of Kampung Usahajaya in Tukau here appeal to the Sarawak government for help, following the receipt of a notice about an upcoming development that would be carried out on their ancestral land.

They held a peaceful protest yesterday, requesting for the Sarawak government to stop the developer from acquiring their land.

“The villagers have approached the relevant authorities, voicing out their fear that the developer would take over their land,” Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) Sarawak commissioner Jofri Jaraiee said in a statement.

He pointed out that PAS Sarawak received complaints from the Kampung Usahajaya folk regarding the matter.

“If the native folk who own the ancestral land are evicted from their homes, what would the fate be for the indigenous people in the future? Does the Sarawak government want to see them becoming homeless, or becoming ‘refugees’ in their own homeland?

“Hopefully, this problem could be solved in the best possible way, and would benefit all parties – let it be a win-win situation,” said Jofri.
