Bintulu contingent champs in state-level BM Carnival

SARIKEI: The contingent from Bintulu District Education Department emerged as overall champion in this year’s state-level Primary and Secondary Schools Bahasa Melayu Carnival held at the school hall of SMK Tinggi Hall here on May 3 and 4.

Its  primary school debate team, secondary school debate team Level 2 primary school story-teller Damien Diddy and representatives in the SJK(C) category Bahasa Melayu Oratory contest, all finished in first place while its secondary school Bicara Berirama (choral speaking) team who finished second helped the contingent become the champion.

The carnival witnessed a total of 1,045 students representing 29 District Education offices throughout the state, competing in 13 oratory events.

First to third-placed winners in the various  events were: Bicara Berirama ( Betong, Sarikei, Kanowit);  Primary School Debate (Bintulu, Sarikei, Kuching); Secondary School Debate (SMK Baru Bintulu, SMK Long Lama Marudi, SMK Rosli Dhoby Sibu);  Primary School Pidato (Damia Nasya Ilhan of Saratok, Aizatul Nazreen of Mukah, Dayang Nurainun Nasuha of Kuching);  Secondary School Pidato (Ayuni Hazirah of Sarikei, Nursyafiqah Jurimee of Miri, Gabriel Win of Kapit); Primary School Pantun (Lawas, Miri, Saratok); Secondary School Pantun (Miri, Sarikei, Sibu); Primary School Level 1 BM Story-Telling (Zulaikha Adriana Zaidi of SK Kalok Betong, Raini Ariescha Kavong of SK Tatau, Farizaniza of SK St Joseph Miri); Story-telling Level 2 (Damien Diddy of SK Setiam Bintulu, Christine Auberry of SK Ulu Melipis Song, Alysia Athalia of SK Kpg Telian Mukah); Oratory SJK(C) category (Bintulu, Miri, Meradong); SJK(C) Word Puzzle (Sibu, Sarikei Serian); Secondary School Bicara Berirama (SMK Kai Chung Meradong, SMK Kidurong Bintulu, SMk St. Anthony Sarikei) and Drama Komsas (SMk Meradong, SMK Tiong Hin Sibu and SMK Bandar
Sarikei).

Sarikei District Education Officer, Lau Ngie Tung presented the prizes at the closing ceremony. Among those present were officers from the Co-curriculum, Human Development Management Unit of the State Education Department, Norman Suhaili and Liong Chin Chin.
