SANDAKAN: The banner war between Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) continues as the latter put up another banner in response to the former’s banner which stated that the opposition party was misleading the people.

The first banner that was put up by PBS contained information that DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had said that there is nothing he could do about the lack of parking spaces in Sandakan if the DAP’s candidate, Vivian Wong Shir Yee, was to lose the by-election.

DAP then put up a smaller banner beside with the wordings: ‘Fake news. The media has already apologized, but PBS continues to mislead (lie)’.

At about 4pm yesterday, PBS erected another banner near Bandar Nasalim with the wordings: ‘Rocket is lying again. Dare to speak but not daring to admit. If you dare, come and sue us and Astro’.

Astro came into the picture because PBS had been using Astro’s Chinese news channel report to quote Lim.

PBS supreme council member Goon Thien Shang said that DAP does not dare to admit that Lim had actually made such statement. He questioned that if it was fake news, then how is it that Lim never denies making such statement.

“If you dare to speak it, please dare to admit doing it. If this is fake news and we are lying, then sue us and Astro,” he said.

Goon said that Lim’s statement is a humiliation to the people of Sandakan.

“He is humiliating us. He thinks we are stupid and that we would vote for him if he threatens us. Just stop lying and making things worse,” Goon said.

The banner war between the two parties has been going on since May 1 when PBS put up a banner with a screenshot of the Chinese News Channel which said: ‘Hospital parking space issue. Lim Guan Eng: If (DAP candidate) wins, find me. If lose, then there is nothing I can do’.

DAP had lodged a police report on the banner claiming that it had the intention to provoke and insult. The Election Commission (EC), acting on the advice of the police, had removed that banner, which is now in the hands of the police for further investigation.

After the incident, PBS and DAP have been putting up more than five banners firing at each other’s sentiments from mile 1.5 to mile 4 around here.
