Firefighters struggle for four hours to contain bushfire

SARIKEI: Fire and Rescue Department personnel here were kept very busy  on Thursday afternoon in a four-hour long struggle to put out a bushfire at 10 acres of idle land near Nyelong Bridge here.

District Bomba chief, Mahmuddin Naruddin who was involved in the operation said the affected area was located quite a distance away from the road and they had to use portable pump engine to reach the raging fire.

The operation which started at 5pm ended at 9pm after the situation was fully put under control, he said, adding the operation was a four-hour marathon except for their Muslim colleagues who had to take a short break to break their fast.
