Chee, Yico win Water Cube Cup singing competition

KOTA KINABALU: Chee Yi Yin and Yico Wong emerged winners of the State-level Water Cube Cup singing competition in the Adult and Youth categories respectively.

Meanwhile, Chia Vun Jun and Riviann Chang took the second and third placingS in the Adult category. Katharine Kou and Anderson Yong were the first and second runners-up in the Youth category.

Chee, Chia, Wong, Kou and Yong will be representing Sabah at the national-level Water Cube Cup singing competition.

Kota Kinabalu member of parliament Chan Foong Hin presented the trophies to the winners at the closing ceremony held at Suria Sabah here yesterday.

In his speech, Chan praised the high standard of performance by the contestants. Whether they won or lost, he said, the contestants’ performance was the best Mother’s Day gift for their parents who were there to support them.

The Water Cube Cup is a Chinese songs contest for overseas Chinese. The state-level competition was organized by the Association of Malaysian Chinese Artistes (AMCA) in collaboration with Sabah-Labuan Motion Picture Traders and Entertainment Association (Slamptea).

Selected winners at the national level will get the opportunity to represent Malaysia at the grand finals in Beijing, China in September this year.

Also present at the event were Slamptea president Peter Chow, deputy president John Soon, secretary Chester Pang, as well as sponsors, Datuk Chee Chi Seng and Kapitan Li Su Fook.
