MIRI: Police have arrested a married couple for suspected drug possession and drug abuse during an operation dubbed “Op Sulit” in Lawas town on Sunday.

State Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Superintendent Sahar Abdul Latif said acting on intelligence, a team of personnel from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters detained a car driven by a man near a shop in Lawas around 8.10pm.

“After searching the car, the team found a waist bag in the front passenger seat. When opened, police found 28 straw tubes containing crystalline substance suspected to be Syabu weighing at 5.10 grammes that were kept in a small plastic container,” he said in a press statement.

According to Sahar, the first suspect then led the police to a hotel at Jalan Pantai, which led to the arrest of a woman in one of the rooms.

“A search in the hotel room found one brown box on the floor containing 33 straw tubes of crystalline substance suspected to be Syabu weighting 7.35 grammes,” added Sahar.

The total drugs seized from the couple was 12.45 grammes worth RM3,050.
