BINTULU: Fire has been raging over a one-hectare dumping site at Tanjong Kidurong for the past seven days, says Bintulu Fire and Rescue station chief Mohamad Meramit.
It is estimated that the affected land is under about 40m of rubbish.
Firefighters from the Bintulu station, together with personnel from Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd have been battling the landfill fire non-stop over the past couple of days.
“The operation is still on-going,” said Mohamad when contacted yesterday.
It is learnt that from a meeting between Bintulu Resident and the ground operations officers called on Monday, the firefighting operation would continue to run 24 hours until all flames are completely put out.
