KUCHING: A man, 35, was yesterday sentenced to two years in jail and one stroke of the cane for molesting a 24-year-old woman.
Mahli Jemi from Sebuyau pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 354 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar.
He committed the offence at a rented house in Jalan Sungai Apong here around 3pm on May 10. He was arrested by the police the next day (May 11) at the house.
The magistrate ordered that the jail term would take effect from yesterday.
The woman was said to be able to avoid being raped and escaped from the man whom she did not know because she kicked him on his private part.
She then screamed for help when she was outside the house.
Mahli was said to be naked while hugging and kissing the woman who was soundly sleeping.
Inspector Nelson Ensit prosecuted while the accused was not represented by any lawyer.
