The picture and caption that was circulated via WhatsApp actually contains false info, while the suspects in the picture were arrested in a previous case in Peninsular Malaysia.

KUCHING: Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim has refuted claims that three members of the Daesh terrorist group were in Sarawak.

The picture of the three suspects that included a caption which warned the public that they were believed to be either in Sibu or Bintulu that had gone viral on social media was the work of irresponsible individuals, he said.

“In fact, the three suspects who are in the picture have been arrested by police from Bukit Aman on May 14 in Peninsular Malaysia,” said Dzuraidi today.

The photo, which was largely circulated via WhatsApp, was believed to be the work of individuals who are trying to confuse and instill fear among the public.

“Investigations by the police also revealed that all three suspects have never set foot in Sarawak,” he added.

He also gave assurance that Sarawak was still safe from any terrorist elements who are trying to cause chaos and destablise the state.
