KOTA KINABALU: There is enough food supply to go round for the upcoming Kaamatan and Hari Raya celebrations.

Continuous monitoring by enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MDTCA) has confirmed that there are enough supplies of controlled goods for the festive season, namely, sugar, flour, rice, cooking oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

“The public should be rest assured that there are enough supplies of food and controlled goods to go round for the coming festive season. MDTCA enforcement officers have been conducting inspections daily, not only on wholesalers but also on supermarkets, wet markets and now, on Ramadan bazaars as well. We have found that there is adequate supply of essential items,” said MDTCA Sabah director Georgie Abas.

He said this during a press conference after inspecting wholesalers, Pemborong C-Care Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Hiap Fong Sdn Bhd and cooking oil re-packer Syarikat Lian Soon Ei Sdn Bhd at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) yesterday. The purpose of the inspection  was to monitor and ensure that there is adequate supply for the festive season.

Georgie reiterated that there is nothing to worry about (over supply), and added that there have been no complaints so far of short supply.

As it stands, supply of controlled goods in Kota Kinabalu is at 320,756 kgs for sugar, 227,732 kgs for flour, 241,937 kgs for packet cooking oil, 304,851 kgs for bottled cooking oil and 178,144 kgs for LPG. Meanwhile, petrol stands at 7,488,960 litres and diesel at 9,627,240 litres.
