KUCHING: Tan Sri Morshidi Abdul Ghani handed over the power to Datu Jaul Samion to act as the Sarawak State secretary while on his long leave, prior to his retirement in August 2019.

The handing over ceremony yesterday (May 16) at Wisma Bapa Malaysia was witnessed by Morshidi’s deputies Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit and Datu Abu Bakar Marzuki.

When contacted on the matter, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing expressed his approval of Jaul’s appointment.

“YB Datu Jaul Samion is an ethnic Iban top civil servant, and a true Sarawakian as the State Secretary (SS). I wish him all the best and may the blessing of God guide him in his works,” he said.

Without elaborating, Jaul when asked about his appointment said: “Good evening, it’s (just) an acting appointment… acting SS while SS is on leave.”

The Chief Minister’s Office has yet to clarify the matter.
