Luyang assemblyman Phoong is new Sabah Youth and Sports Minister

KOTA KINABALU: Luyang assemblyman Phoong Jin Zhe has been appointed as the new Sabah Youth and Sports Minister.

Phoong replaced Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, who has been appointed as Sabah Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister after the post fell vacant following the death of Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt on March 28.

At a media conference here yesterday, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal also announced the appointment of Sabah DAP Treasurer Loh Ee Eng as an appointed assemblyman who would be sworn in on Tuesday.

He said there was no Cabinet reshuffle in Sabah and the appointment of the two ministers was merely a move to fill the vacancies.

Their appointments were made after discussions with DAP leadership at the central and state levels, he added. Mohd Shafie also said that he was confident that the appointment of the 30-year-old Phoong as the Youth and Sports Minister was apt as he would be able to understand youth issues better and hence, discharge his duties well.
