Two narcotics policemen apprehend the drug suspect during the raid at Kampung Sembulan Lama.

KOTA KINABALU: A man’s desperate attempt to escape arrest during a narcotics police raid led to a struggle in muddy water at Kampung Sembulan Lama here, before he was apprehended eventually.

Acting city police chief Supt George Abdul Rakman said the suspect was among three individuals detained by police during ‘Ops Sarang’.

“A total of 63 people, comprising three suspected drug pushers, 44 suspected drug addicts, 15 individuals suspected of possessing syabu, and an illegal immigrant, were detained during the week-long operation covering Kampung Sembulan Lama, Kampung Delima, Kampung Likas and Inanam,” he said yesterday.

“About 18.54g of syabu, with street price of RM2,781, was confiscated by police during the operation, which ran from May 11 to 17,” added George.

The suspects, aged between 14 and 50, are under remand to facilitate investigation under Section 39a (1), Section 12(2), and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

George said the narcotics operation would be carried out from time to time to eliminate illegal drug activities around the state capital.
