Nanta, Jamit declare open access road to Rumah Kayan

KAPIT: The 1km access road to Rumah Kayan, Nanga Dia, Batang Rajang near here was declared open yesterday.

Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit, and Walikota Kapit Dato Philemon Nuing were on hand to jointly officiate at the opening of the road, built under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).

Ten longhouse chiefs were also present at the opening ceremony which came complete with a ‘miring’ ceremony.

TR Kayan thanked Nanta and Jamit for realising their dream of a having a proper road built to the longhouse, which allows them to drive all the way to the town centre. Before, they had to use boats to move around.

“This road and a site for our future longhouse are made possible by both men through their financial allocation. They have helped us and we will help them in future elections,” he said.

Nanta, Jamit and Philemon also spoke at the function.
