Armed robbery case: Police recover pistol, magazine and live bullet

MIRI: Police have recovered a Walther pistol, a magazine and a live bullet believed to be used by three armed robbers who robbed a family at gunpoint at their house in Taman Serene Jelita in Taman Tunku last Thursday.

Miri District police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah when asked on the updates on the case today, said acting on information from the public, police found the pistol near the drainage at Taman Jelita in Taman Tunku.

The items seized were later taken to the police station as evidence in the case.

When asked on whether the suspects managed to escape with valuables from the scene, Lim said the suspects had carted away several items but the value had yet to be ascertained.

Police are on an extensive man hunt for the third suspect, a 37-year-old identified as Ng Cheng Hui who escaped from the scene after the robbery.

There has been no update on the suspect thus far.

Two of Ng’s accomplices have been detained by police at the scene where one of the suspects was shot on both legs by the police personnel.

Police are investigating the case under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, for discharging a firearm in the commission of a crime.

Those convicted under this law could face the death penalty.
