34 remanded four days for illegal online gambling

KUCHING: Thirty-four persons, mostly Indonesians, were placed on a four-day remand to facilitate police probe into illegal online gambling activities.

They include eight women who were brought by the police to a magistrate’s court here yesterday for remand application.

They were arrested on two occasions Wednesday at two separate online gambling reload centres.

The police raided the centres around 10.40am and 11am respectively.

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) chief SAC Denis Leong Soon Kuai said both centres were estimated to rake in a monthly income of RM700,000 to RM800,000.

The first raid was carried out at a house in Jalan Kong Ping where 18 suspects (14 males and four females) were arrested. They comprise three local men and 15 Indonesians.

The second raid was carried out at a house in Jalan Stephen Yong where 16 suspects (12 males and four females) were arrested. They were all foreigners.

Leong said both gambling reload centres have been operating since two months ago and, all those arrested were between 18 and 34 years old.

The centres were also running gambling websites known as Chipsmore, Mamee, Disney, VP, DTG and Starwin.
