KUCHING: A 38-year-old suspect broke his arm when he tried to resist arrest in a failed burglary attempt at a house in Kampung Tanjam, Lundu at around 9.45pm last night.

Lundu district police chief DSP Wong Chee Keong when contacted today, said the police were notified of the incident by the house owner, who was told by his sister that someone had broken into his house.

The incident had also caught the attention of other villagers who gathered in numbers outside the house to ensure that the suspect could not escape.

“Police who entered the house to conduct checks soon discovered that the robber was hiding inside the ceiling to evade capture,” said Wong.

Efforts by the police to persuade the suspect to climb down and surrender peacefully ended in vain as the latter started to act aggressively.

A short struggle ensued before the suspect was arrested by the police.

Early investigation revealed that the suspect was also from one of the villages in Lundu.

Police also found the items which were believed to be stolen from the house inside the suspect’s bag.

A motorcycle and tools which were believed to be used for the house break-in were also seized by the police.
