MIRI: The ten-member team from SJK (C) Chung Hua Pujut won a gold medal under environment category at World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE) held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) early this month.

Their invention ‘Green Travel Companion’ included a travel luggage and toiletries made from dried loofah sponges as alternatives to common heavy hand-carry luggage and toiletries containing harmful ingredients.

“I am proud of the students’ creativity, innovative talents and commitment. Their win was the result of their hard work, dedication of teachers-in-charge and support from parents.

“The School Board of Directors and parents of team members had contributed financially to make the trip a pleasant one for the team,” said school principal Chuo Kwong Ung in a press release.

He hoped that the victory would encourage more students to think out of the box for more inventions and innovative products related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and green environmental.

The event from May 2 to 4, organised by International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) saw the participation of 400 teams from China, Hong Kong, Laos, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia, South Korea and Malaysia.
