SIBU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) will carry out a detailed analysis of the results of the 14th general election to understand the dissatisfaction of voters towards the government, particularly in urban areas.

Its president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said through the analysis, the party will identify its weaknesses and apply the necessary changes in order to woo this particular voting group.

“As you know in the last parliamentary election, a lot of urban voters were not happy with the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“In fact, as much as 95 per cent of the Chinese voters voted for Pakatan Harapan (PH) and, to a lesser extent, a smaller portion of rural voters as well,” he said when officiating at a pre-Gawai Dayak celebration organised by PSB Bawang Assan branch, here yesterday.

Wong, who is Second Finance Minister, said winning back urban voters required ‘a lot of homework and hard work’.

“We have to find out the reasons (why urban voters chose PH) and win back their confidence and support.

“Also in rural areas, probably 30 to 40 per cent of voters chose PH, so we must work hard.”

He reiterated that as a party which is ‘friendly’ towards the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state coalition, PSB fully supports the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, particularly on rural transformation and the return of the state’s rights
under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Meanwhile, Wong disclosed that PSB is a ‘growing’ party that has managed to attract thousands of members since its rebranding, with thousands more looking to join.

“In Selangau, we have 8,000 members while in Krian, its 3,000. Engkili and Batang Ai, we have 5,000 (members) each while Ngemah and Kapit, about 3,000 each.

“There are still thousands of people out there who would like to join us. So our responsibilities are huge and our journey, challenging.”

Among those present were PSB Bawang Assan Bumiputera Unit chairman Andrew Shilling Bangit, Temenggong Stanley Geramong and Pemanca James Sembilan.
