SIBU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh is unfazed by the action of certain individuals from two political parties who are trying to get him replaced in the coming state election.

The Bawang Assan assemblyman said that he found out through social media that members of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) had stated that he (Wong) is an old man and has to be replaced.

“So they go to social media to select their own candidates. I saw the representatives from SUPP and PBB.

“In comparison, they said the one from PBB is more popular, winnable and that he should stand as candidate in Bawang Assan constituency.

“So this is a democratic country. We all want to serve the people of Sarawak,” he said when officiating at PSB Bawang Assan branch’s pre-Gawai Dayak gathering here yesterday.

Wong said that like Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Pakatan Harapan (PH), PSB also wanted to serve as many people as possible.

“We try to complement one another to see if we can serve the people better.

“This is our focus. Move to as many areas as possible and try to serve as many people in as many state constituencies as possible,” he said.

Earlier, PSB Bawang Assan Bumiputera Unit chairman Andrew Shilling Bangit in his welcoming speech assured the constituents that Wong will contest Bawang Assan seat in the 12th state election.

“Which party he will represent, I cannot tell yet because we have just set up PSB.

“It also depends on Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) whether they want to be ‘friends’ with PSB or not.

“But PSB will contest in the state election be it from the government or otherwise,” he said.

Shilling also told the constituents not to be instigated by the allegation that Wong could no longer work due to his age.

“Our Prime Minister Tun (Dr) Mahathir Mohamad is 93 years old and he is still active moving on the ground.

“Do not believe rumour-mongers because an empty tin makes the most noise,” he said.
