KUCHING: It is not against the law to pay employees’ salary in cash, clarified Sarawak Labour Department in a statement yesterday
The press statement was issued in response to the issuance of compound by the Labour Department in Peninsular Malaysia to employers who pay their employees’ salary in cash which had made many employers in Sarawak wanting to know more on the matter.
“With regard to this matter, Labour Department Sarawak would like to inform employers that under Labour Ordinance (Sarawak Chapter 76), paying salary in cash to employees is not an offence. Therefore, employers in Sarawak need not worry about the matter,” the Sarawak Labour Department said.
However, the press statement said if employers require further information or explanation on this matter, they may contact Sarawak Labour Department head office at 082-242261 or visit the nearest Labour Department office in Sarawak.
