KUCHING: The Sarawak government will be using its own financial resources to continue its development projects as promised.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state leadership through Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has agreed to take over responsibilities to oversee issues, welfare and the well-being of Sarawakians using the state’s financial resources.

“As GPS chairman, I am committed to cooperate and build mutual understanding with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government for the benefit of all Sarawakians,” he said in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message today.

He stressed that the state government has always been concerned with issues faced by the people, particularly those who live in remote and coastal areas of Sarawak.

“Through various agencies, we have made a solid commitment to ensure that basic facilities such as clean water supply, electricity and transportation facilities which connect the people are improved from time to time.”

On another note, Abang Johari also expressed his confidence that the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) is actively upgrading the water supply infrastructure in rural areas so as to reduce the number of affected villages in the long run.

“The same also applies to electricity supply, road and bridge projects connecting every part of Sarawak which have been approved and are in the process of planning and implementation.

“It is the government’s intention to ensure that every Sarawakian benefits from these basic facilities in their lives,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari said Sarawakians, which comprise of various races, religions and political affiliations ought to work together to preserve unity and harmony in the state.

He pointed out that there was nothing more beautiful than happiness, wellbeing, harmony and prosperity of Sarawak which should be enjoyed by all Sarawakians and Malaysians as a whole.

“Let us celebrate this noble day of Hari Raya with the spirit of goodwill and brotherhood among us irrespective of our differences in religion and heredity.”

He said the culture of visiting one another should be continued so that Hari Raya becomes more meaningful.

“As Muslims, we celebrate Hari Raya with feelings of gratitude and happiness as a sign of achievement after facing various challenges during the month of Ramadan.

“It is hoped that we can fully appreciate this year’s Ramadan to improve our quality of life towards a more meaningful future.”

This year, Abang Johari and his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang will be holding their Hari Raya Open House at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on the first and second day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri from 10am to 4pm.
