MIRI: The Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Taman Tunku Bahasa Kayan has received a minor rural project (MRP) grant of RM45,000 from the Sarawak government to upgrade its car park.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau presented the grant to church deacons lead by Deacon Wan Ngau Lah recently.

Dennis said the upgrade would help to alleviate parking problems faced by the congregation, especially on Sundays.

“The problem has existed since the new church building was opened in October 2017. Having attended several services and events held at the church, I noticed the congregation has difficulty with parking and this is made worse as the church building is located within the Taman Tunku Light Industrial Area,” he said.

According to Dennis, much of his MRP allocation has gone to assist churches, mosques, and temples with upgrading and activities.

“This also goes to show our state leaders and government support and care for all religions in this land,” he said.

BEM Taman Tunku Bahasa Kayan has over 800 registered members. Church treasurer Anyie Ajeng added in view of the ever-increasing service attendance, not only from registered members, the church committee has already submitted a fund request to the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) for assistance with a new church building.
