SIBU: Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) approved four extra trips yesterday to cater for those returning to work after the long holidays.

Its Sibu assistant controller Hatta Morshidi said two trips each were approved for the Kapit-Sibu and Song-Sibu sectors.

“On Saturday, Sibu Express Boat Terminal handled 3,774 passengers, comprising 2,358 arrivals and 1,416 departures.

“As for the RC Pontoon Wharf along Jalan Khoo Peng Loong, 446 passengers passed through the facility on the same day, of which 237 were arrivals,” he said.

The RC Pontoon Wharf is the berthing spot for express boats plying the downriver routes of Passin, Daro, Bruit, Igan and Mupong.

Meanwhile, the second phase of the integrated operations, which started on June 3, ended yesterday.

Led by SRB, the integrated enforcement operations involved Sarawak Marine Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Marine Police, Civil Defence Force, Rela, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, and local authorities.
