KUCHING: The principles of unity and selflessness for the greater good are the foundations that have strengthened the Foochow community nationwide and across the globe, said Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

During the ‘World Foochow One Heart Community’ dinner on Monday, Wong said it was heartening to see members of Foochow associations worldwide at the meaningful dinner.

“The successes that are achieved by the World Federation of Foochow Associations would not made possible without the unity of the Foochow community worldwide,” said Wong during the event organised by the Federation of Foochow Associations of Malaysia.

Federation president Datuk Seri Lau Wei Kiong echoed Wong’s statement, pointing out that the World Federation of Foochow Associations has been a platform for networking among Foochows worldwide.

“Foochow associations in the country are now being helmed by the third or fourth generation of Foochow leaders, who look into the needs of their community that are scattered across the country,” he said.

Lau added diplomatic ties between Malaysia and China were established 45 years ago, with China being the
country’s largest trading partner for 10 consecutive years and the largest foreign direct investment source for three consecutive years.

Among those present were Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen and World Federation of Foochow Associations president Ng Woon Yim.
