KUCHING: The adventurous and risk-taking spirit of the Foochow community can be found globally.

Federation of Foochow Associations of Malaysia president Datuk Seri Lau Wei Kiong said this can be seen in the legacy and success of Foochow descendants in various parts of the world.

“The bond fostered within the Foochow community would not be constrained by the limitation of distance.

“No matter where you are, we will always be connected to each other because the world is our home,” he said during a farewell dinner for World Federation of Foochow Associations members on Tuesday.

Lau called on the 104 member associations from 40 countries worldwide to remain united and make full use of the opportunities that arise.

He also hoped the warm hospitality of Malaysia and Borneo would remain with the visitors.

“These few days, members of Foochow associations throughout the world had arrived in Kuching. I believe everyone is able to experience the country’s unique cultural characteristics and diverse racial composition,” he added.

Meanwhile, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, who officiated at the event, urged all Foochow descendants to maintain high standards in their works and to achieve great success in their respective fields.

“The unity that exists within the Foochow community allows us to always be at each other’s side during both good and bad times,” he said.

Ding also called on those present to fight for more benefits and look after the welfare of the Foochow community while contributing positively to society and the country.
