KUCHING: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru’s (PBDSB) Youth wing is shocked by the State Reform Party Sarawak’s (STAR) statement that the Sarawak Baru (SB) coalition would be registered soon.

PBDSB Youth chief Rapelson Richard Hamit said any decision on SB needs to be discussed amongst the presidents of the parties involved.

STAR president Lina Soo had said SB would be registered within this year.

Rapelson said PBDSB has yet to make any plans on the proposed coalition, but noted that under the initial arrangement, the SB council would involve the PBDSB president and presidents from other parties.

“SB itself was founded by the late PBDSB president Cobbold John Lusoi, who was also the pro tem chairman, while the pro tem vice-chairmen are Soo and Munan Laja, who is president of the Sarawak Workers Party (SWP),” he said.

Rapelson pointed out that Banyi Beriak, who was pro tem secretary-general, has left Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) and the coalition to join Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB). He said Cobbold had also named PBDSB secretary-general Julius Enchana as SB pro tem secretary-general and STAR treasurer Chieng Lee Ping as pro tem treasurer-general.

However, Rapelson said PBDSB welcomed the idea of registering SB with the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

“Pertaining to the invitation of new parties to the SB coalition, we will have a say on this once our presidential meeting is done.

“Nevertheless, we welcome them to join our quest and fight for a better Sarawak,” he added.

Soo had said SB welcomed more local-based parties and non-governmental organisations to join the coalition.
