KAPIT: As much as 60 per cent of the Katibas constituency remains without electricity supply, despite the promise of the Sarawak government to electrify rural areas, claims Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB).

Its treasurer-general Sai Malaka said among the areas in Katibas that are without power are Sungai Rajang, Sungai Song, Sungai Iran, Sungai Lajan and Sungai Katibas, with villagers there relying on generators and even candles to light up their homes.

“According to press reports on June 11 this year, the state government said they always put priority on developing rural areas and the
interiors.

“PBDSB is concerned about Dayaks in the interiors and hopes there is balance in the socio-economic development throughout the state,” he said in a statement issued yesterday.

Sai added he hopes the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will fulfil its promises to develop rural areas of the state, especially in regard to basic infrastructure such as electricity and water
supply.
