MIRI: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Baram division is calling on the Sarawak government to update the people on the status of the proposed balloon-powered internet project announced in 2017.

In a statement issued Wednesday, it said there has been no word on the project since then and questioned the sincerity of the government in wanting to develop better communication facilities in Baram.

“We, PKR Baram, urge the state government including the wakil rakyat (elected representatives) to give updates on the (balloon-powered internet) project promptly.

“The people of Baram are asking us (PKR) to update them on the status of the project, since the state government has been quiet about it,” read the statement.

The balloon-powered internet project was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in Long San, Baram in August 2017.
