LAWAS: Sarawak is focusing on 78 dilapidated schools across Limbang division, with Lawas District Education Office to be given priority for improvement works under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).

According to Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang, there are many other schools that have submitted proposals for improvement works, which also need due attention, and there are those that have received allocations from the Education Department.

He lists SK Kuala Awang in Batu Danau as those not included in the list of dilapidated schools; however, it is stated that SK Kuala Awang is put under the project concession of the Forest Department.

Paulus was met by reporters yesterday following the conclusion of the three-day ‘Proposed Development Projects, Area Value Management Laboratory (VML) – NRDA, which involved 78 primary and secondary schools across this division, as well as representatives of Lawas District Education Office.

Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Limbang Resident Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi, Lawas District Officer Ladin Atok, Limbang District Officer Superi Awang Said, Lawas District Education Officer Dr Hassan Hasbollah and Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) chief executive officer Datu Ismawi Ismuni, were also present.

Adding on, Paulus hoped that collaborative follow-up efforts would be made to implement the proposals, made during the laboratory, slated for the 78 schools across Lawas and also for Lawas Education office.

“As for schools that are still in good condition but need improvement works, they would be included in the second phase of the project,” said the assemblyman.
