SIBU: Public toilets in Sibu Rural District Council’s jurisdiction still have room for improvement in terms of cleanliness and facilities, says its chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai.

He also said many public toilets in the area had been vandalised.

He said this yesterday following Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairperson Rogayah Jamain’s recent statement that public toilets in their jurisdiction were still not up to the mark in as far as cleanliness was concerned despite the council’s consistent and continuous efforts.

“Only the puiblic toilet at Sibu Jaya Tamu is up to the mark. The others still have room for improvement. Vandalism of public toilets is another problem that needs to be tackled,” Sempurai said when contacted yesterday.

Among ways to tackle the problem, he added, was to educate the public on the proper ways of using public toilets.

Toilets have to be flushed after use, and no throwing of rubbish other that toilet paper into the bowl, are some of the measures the people have to adhere to, he added.
