MIRI: ‘Run with Bomba’, a yearly charity run to be held on Aug 18 this year, has adopted Miri Ability Service Association (Masa) as one of its beneficiaries, as part of reaching out to the community.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 6 chief Law Poh Kiong, who visited the centre recently, was impressed with the association’s progress since it started operation last October.

“Currently, there are about 150 members with physical disabilities (OKU) who are learning different skills to help them earn an income,” said Law.

The association’s chairman Boon Foo Ping who is also an OKU, believes that disabilities should not be an excuse to be dependent on others.

“Our association is named as such as we believe that every individual has the ability to do anything. Thus we encourage members to learn various skills so they could become independent.”

Boon added that they look forward to collaborating with the department for fire awareness training for OKU to raise awareness on fire prevention.

Law was joined by head of Investigation Section Awangku Mohd Hazmin and head of Lopeng fire station Terry Robson during the visit.
