GPS Women to hold public dialogue this Saturday

KUCHING: The Women’s Wing of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will hold a public dialogue at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) auditorium this Saturday (June 29), starting 9am.

The dialogue is a joint collaboration and initiative of four component parties of GPS Women, led by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Women chief Kho Teck Wan as the organising chairperson.

“The dialogue will be an on-going programme throughout Sarawak, and this upcoming one will be our first,” Kho told a press conference held at SUPP headquarters in Jalan Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui here yesterday.

According to a press statement, the objective of the programme is to create awareness and improve constitutional literacy among the grassroots members as well as the public at large.

Speakers expected at the dialogue this saturday are Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and lawyer Robert Lau Hui Yew.

The dialogue will touch on topics regarding Malaysia Agreement 1963, Oil Mining Ordinance 1958, the Federal Constitution, and the relations between the federal and state governments.

Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, who is also GPS Women chief, is expected to officiate at the programme.

“We want as many people as possible to understand what our rights are under MA63, and the GPS-led government will focus on getting our rights that have been eroded, back,” said Fatimah who was also present at the press conference.

The dialogue is open to the public and admission is free. Members of the public, especially youths and fresh graduates, are encouraged to attend the dialogue.
