GOF recovers air rifle, stolen bike as suspect flees across border

KUCHING: General Operations Force (GOF) personnel yesterday foiled an attempt by a man to ride a stolen motorcycle across the Malaysia-Indonesia border in the Padang Pan area in Bau.

GOF Battalion 11 commanding officer Supt Rosdi Inai said the personnel on patrol in the area spotted the suspect riding the machine around 5.30pm and ordered for him to stop.

“The suspect ignored the instruction and sped off towards the border, but ended up crashing on the side of the road.

“However, he managed to pick himself up and fled on foot to the border,” he said via a statement issued.

Rosdi added that GOF personnel recovered an air rifle, face mask and knife – believed to belong to the suspect – near the crashed motorcycle.

“A check of the motorcycle found it had been reported missing on July 2,” he said.

The case has been handed over to Bau police for further investigation.
