KUALA LUMPUR: Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF)) yesterday launched the B40 Capacity Building Scheme (B40 CAB) to assist low-income workers get skills training to increase their income.

Human Resources Minister M. Kula Segaran said the scheme would help improve the economic condition of this group and achieve the government’s target of 35 per cent skilled workforce by next year.

“Currently, the number of skilled labour is only 28 per cent… we need to focus more on this and employers are encouraged to give their staff the opportunity to acquire skills.

“The scheme is open to everyone and hopefully they will take advantage of this to improve their skills,” he told reporters after launching the scheme at HRDF’s Hari Raya open house and 2019 Meet the Customers Day here.

Through B40 CaB, HRDF aims to arm participants with specific skills and knowledge, enabling them to secure employment, gain promotion and/ or earn a better income

HRDF will be running several pilot projects with its strategic partner, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) prior to the official implementation, expected to begin in August this year. — Bernama
