KUCHING: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) has opened its doors for Datuk Dr Jerip Susil to join the party, following his abrupt resignation from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) yesterday.

PDP vice-president Dato Henry Harry Jinep said by joining PDP, Dr Jerip would become part of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

“Definitely we would welcome him with open arms,” Henry, who is Tasik Biru assemblyman, said when contacted yesterday.

Dr Jerip, who was PSB deputy president, announced his resignation from the party through a press statement yesterday.

Although PSB is not a GPS component, Dr Jerip is a member of the state administration as Assistant Minister of Transportation.

Among the reasons cited by Dr Jerip for his departure from PSB was that the people in his rural constituency will greatly benefit from the GPS government’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

He also said his decision was made in the greater interest of Bidayuh unity, which Henry described as ‘positive and far-sighted’.

“It is a positive and far-sighted decision made by Dr Jerip, who is putting Bidayuh interest above personal interest.

“I believe he has weighed all issues before coming to a drastic and unselfish decision. We welcome him back to the GPS fold in order to strengthen Bidayuh unity through the ‘Ndi Awang, Ndi Asong’ (one heart, one mind) theme,” added Henry.
