Pustaka Miri holds exhibition on antiques till Aug 5

MIRI: Pustaka Miri is currently holding an exhibition themed ‘Khazanah Sarawak’ at its lobby until this Aug 5.

The exhibition, which is open to the public, features the personal antique collection of avid collector Masri Usan.
It aims to share the beauty of unique artefacts from Borneo Island, specifically those from Sarawak. The items include copper, beads, wood carvings, silver and ceramic products from foreign traders who stopped by at Sarawak’s coastline many years ago.

These artefacts have since become heritage properties passed down from one generation to another among Sarawak’s ethnic groups including the Melanaus, the Ibans and the Orang Ulus.

Masri is hailed as one of the pioneers among the younger generation to collect antique items.

He is considered among Pustaka Miri’s associates who are actively involved in successful programmes organised and run by the divisional library such as the ‘Malaysia Books of Record’ attempt to have the ‘Longest Philately’ in May 2013, the ‘Perak Exhibition’ with the late Lucas Johnny, and the ‘Arts & Collections Exhibition’ held last February.
