MIRI: Villagers living along the Sarawak-Sabah interstate gas pipe route in Sarawak will be trained to deal with gas explosion.
The safety action plan was launched yesterday at Long Laput village by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman for 135 people accredited as Community firefighters for their respective villages.
Meanwhile, 12 community fire squads of Long Laput (five teams), Long Bemang (six teams) and Uma Akeh (one team) received registration certificate and Incident Action Plan while Uma Bawang Community Fire team received registration certificate and fire fighting equipment.
Khirudin said the safety of the people living along the 600km-long pipeline route is a priority and under the action plan launched, these villagers will be well equipped and fully trained to handle any emergency situation if any incident happens along the gas pipeline.
He said every settlement along the route will see this action plan implemented while Petronas is sponsoring the fire fighting equipment for Fire voluntary squads.
Also present yesterday were community leaders of Long Laput, Long Bemang, Uma Bawang and Uma Akeh, Miri Fire chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, Kayan community leader Temenggong Elizabeth Deng, Marudi Fire head Maureen Sim and Petronas pipeline operation manager Suffian Sabeli.
