SIBU: The intermittent interruptions in parts of Sibu Jaya here on Thursday and Friday were due to faulty switchgear at the Sibu Airport substation.

In a press statement released by Sarawak Energy yesterday, Sarawak Energy Central Region regional manager Nazry Abdul Latip said they had to carry out an emergency shutdown to the substation on Friday morning.

“However, while repair works are still ongoing at the substation, Sarawak Energy is managing the Sibu Jaya load through load transfer to other substations and at the same time, reinforcing the supply to Sibu Jaya substation.

“We dispatched our 500kVA mobile genset to Sibu Jaya to support the Friday evening load increase and fully restored the supply to Sibu Jaya. Today (Saturday) works are ongoing to further reinforce and normalise the supply to Sibu Jaya,” Nazry said.

He added that the equipment fault at Sibu Airport substation was detected around 8pm Thursday, and emergency shutdown was done at
1.30am Friday to avoid further damage.

“Rest assured that we are doing all we can to deliver reliable supply to our customers.

“We regret the inconveniences caused due to the equipment fault and thank our customers for their patience,” Nazry said.
