Mirabel in action on Day 1. She eventually finished third with a two-day score of six-under par 138.

KUCHING: Mirabel Ting Ern Hui produced one of the best performances of her young but promising golf career when she finished third in the Girls Division of the European Young Masters at the Golf and Spa Kuneticka Hora in Prague, the Czech Republic on Saturday.

The 13-year old Mirabel, who hails from Miri, shot a five-under par 67 on Day 1 and continued with a one-under par 71 on Day 2 and Day 3 for a three-day score of seven-under par 209.

This initially placed her second on the leaderboard in the 53-player field but the tournament was reduced to two rounds as adverse weather prevented some players from completing their third round.

Paula Schulz-Hanssen of Germany won on 136 strokes followed by Lilas Pinthier of France in second spot a stroke further.

Mirabel was the only Malaysian who represented the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) with three other players Arjun Bhati and Parnavi Urs from India and Thailand’s Pongsapak Laopakdee in Europe’s most prestigious Under-16 championships which attracted top young golfers from 31 countries.

The Sukma player was extremely delighted with her performance as it has been a while since she had played under-par scores over three days.

“It was so much fun this week. My game has finally returned and it was a great round of 67 on the first day where I experienced windy courses and competed with all the great players,” she said.

She also expressed her gratitude to her parents, “all the uncles and aunts” and Hills Golf Academy (in Australia where she is on a scholarship) “for helping me out and gain my confidence.”

Her next international competitions will be in Taiwan and Japan in August.
