CM declares open Bario Sub-District Office

Abang Johari signs a plaque to mark the opening of Bario Sub-District Office, witnessed by Uggah on his right and other dignitaries.

MIRI: The Bario Sub-District Office was declared open by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at a ceremony held in conjunction with the 14th edition of Bario food and cultural festival, ‘Pesta Nukenen’ in Bario recently.

During the ceremony, Abang Johari signed a plaque to mark the opening of the new sub-district office before touring the area, covering the accounts room, community leaders’ office, and the Native Court.

He also visited the general office as well as its main meeting room on the top floor.

Abang Johari was briefed by acting deputy Miri Resident cum district officer, Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf, earlier.

The RM5.2-million construction of the Bario Sub-District Office commenced on July 10, 2016, and reached completion on Jan 9 this year.

The Bario Sub-District Office provides services related to various statutory matters such as probate applications, adoption of children, gun licensing and ammunition permits, and verification of documents.

It also coordinates and monitors development projects in the Bario Sub-District, as well as assists in the implementation of integrated development plans for the poor villages.

The Bario Sub-District Office also oversees issues related to community leaders and the village security and development committees under its jurisdiction, including disaster management and the wellbeing of the locals.

Also present at the event were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, acting State Secretary Datu Jaul Samion, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Baram MP Anyi Ngau, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat, Mulu assemblyman Dato Gerawat Gala, Miri Mayor Adam Yii, Miri Resident Mastapha Julaihi, Rurum Kelabit Sarawak president Dr Philip Raja, and Federation of Orang Ulu Association of Malaysia
(Forum) president Antonio Khati Galis.
