MIRI: The rural communities are urged to face all modern day challenges with commitment and strong desire to succeed.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said only with such courage and determination could they be successful in their life.
“Whatever circumstances you are in, be it as adult trying to feed your family, students in primary and secondary schools, government staff especially teachers in a very rural school in Telang Usan with long list of shortcomings, the way I see it, we have to double up our efforts as only then can we achieve success.
“In fact, we the rural community are not lesser than others in capacity as we are born with capabilities,” said Dennis at the closing of the Central Baram Zone Primary Schools Sports Council (MSSR) inter-zone carnival held over the weekend.
He also urged all teachers and staff posted to schools in Telang Usan constituency to share with their students the real secret of success – that is enthusiasm and excitement, adding without these traits it is almost impossible for children to excel in their studies.
“Teach them not to lose to their environment or worst ask why they are not as lucky as children living in big cities,” said Dennis.
He was glad that the teachers were committed to getting their students participate in co-curricular activities like sports.
“It is indisputable that teachers play pivotal roles in shaping the young minds for the future. Therefore the influence of a good teacher can never be erased,” he pointed out.
Dennis praised the Long Laput community especially Temenggong Elizabeth Deng and headmen Robert Luhat for their strong support to the organising committee and making all events held at Long Laput longhouse a huge success.
He hoped other longhouses in his constituency would emulate Long Laput leaders and the community.
Also present at the event were Temenggong Elizabeth Deng, MSSR Central Baram Zone chairman Hasan Seruji, Baram Teachers Council chairman Samuel Ewet, a representative from Baram District Office, headmasters of all the 13 participating primary schools and Long Laput headmen Robert Luhat.
