MUAR: Two Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leaders said yesterday a closed-door meeting Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had Monday with all Bersatu MPs, senators and menteris besar was a routine one.

According to Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir, it was a normal meeting to obtain the advice, views and guidance of Dr Mahathir to carry out their duties more effectively.

“It is important for the leaders to know their duties and policy matters,” he told reporters after closing the rhythmic gymnastics championships of the Malaysian Schools Sports Council at the Pagoh Higher Education Hub at Bandar Universiti Pagoh here.

He said it was the second such meeting and it will be convened from time to time.

Mukhriz said in Alor Star that Dr Mahathir usually calls for such pre-council meetings, sometimes before the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara convene.

The Kedah menteri besar said he was unable to attend the meeting as he had to attend a banquet at Istana Anak Bukit.

He also said that such a meeting is necessary for the Bersatu leadership to adopt a common stand in line with and in the context of the ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

“You must understand that some of the Bersatu MPs are new, having joined us from Umno; so, we have to enable them to get aligned,” he said.

Muhyiddin and Mukhriz were asked to comment on the uploading by Youth and Sports Minister and Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman of four photographs on his Twitter account with a caption in Bahasa Malaysia which translates into English as: “Closed-door meeting of YAB Tun M with all MPs, senators, menteris besar from BERSATU. We give our full support to YAB Tun M and will focus on the people’s cause. People’s problems are our problems. Needless to be arrogant, serve everyone sincerely.” — Bernama
