SERIAN: Yayasan Sarawak has contributed tremendously towards the development of education in the state, said,Assistant Minister of Transportation Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

He pointed out that the foundation has helped many students to further their studies both locally and overseas, and provided assistance to needy school children.

According to him, such assistance was made possible due to its sound financial management and prudent spending.

“When we talk about Yayasan Sarawak and in terms of helping towards the development of education in the state, it has done a lot to help our school children to go for tertiary education both at local and overseas universities.

“At the same time, Yayasan Sarawak has also helped our needy school children to buy school uniforms and other school stationery,” Dr Jerip pointed out.

He said this when officiating at Yayasan Sarawak’s school uniform voucher presentation ceremony at SMK Siburan here.

A total of 97 students from the school received the vouchers, worth RM200 each, which expire end of this year. Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman, also said Yayasan Sarawak played a pivotal role in setting up universities like Swinburne and Curtin, and Kolej Laila Taib with the hope and objective to enable more locals to further their studies locally, at the same time helping to set up technical schools in the state.

On SMK Siburan, Dr Jerip said he had helped the school since 2003 and was glad to note that the school was performing well in academics.

He hoped teachers, parents and students through the school’s parent-teacher association work together to make the school more reputable.

However, facilities like the dining hall needed to be upgraded, he pointed out.

Speaking to reporters later, Dr Jerip also thanked Yayasan Sarawak for providing such assistance to primary school pupils in his constituency, adding that a similar ceremony will be held within this month.

Present were deputy Kuching Resident Tuah Suni, Sarawak administrative officer from Padawan sub-district office Rangen Jamang, Yayasan Sarawak assistant director for corporate communication Abdullah Abdul Gapor and school principal Wong Nguk Chin.
