Strong winds damage roof of Kudat Immigration Office

Kudat fire and rescue personnel clearing the Immigration Office’s roofs after they were blew away by strong winds yesterday morning.

KUDAT: The Immigration Office here was damaged by strong wind early yesterday morning.

Kudat Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Saidi Tabin said the incident happened at 4am. The roof of the Immigration office was blown off into the compound of the Sabah Port.

Although no untoward incident was reported, a team of fire and rescue personnel was deployed to the scene to clear the area.

A spokesperson for the State Fire and Rescue Department, when contacted, said the department only received two emergency calls of fallen trees in Kuala Penyu and Penampang.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department issued warnings to small boats and vessels of strong winds and high waves for the next couple of days.

The statement stated that southwest winds blowing between 50 to 60 kilometres per hour and waves reaching up to 4.5 metres were expected in several areas including in Layang-Layang until Saturday.

The Meteorological Department has also advised all maritime activities to take appropriate steps following typhoon Lekima detected at Southeast Japan.
