223 receive RM60,810 from SOPB

MIRI: Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOPB) has so far disbursed RM60,810 to 223 students from 43 schools in Sarawak under its Young Achievers Award (YAA) and Student Adoption Programme (SAP) 2018/10.

The company gave RM23,370 to 142 students who excelled in last year’s (2018) public examinations namely UPSR, PT3, SPM and STPM. They also received certificates in recognition for their love of learning.

The YAA programme, according to a press statement received from the company yesterday, is aimed to inspire local students towards academic excellence, and to emphasise the importance of education.

This year, the plantation company gave RM37,443 to 81 students under its Student Adoption Programme (SAP), which is part of their CSR initiatives to provide financial support for underprivileged children in primary and secondary schools within the vicinity of the Group’s operations.

SOPB regional plantation controller, Tay Ching, gave the cash incentives to the 81 students from low income families, which was held at SOP Academy here.

Its plantation controller Selvarajah Lurdusamy was also present at the function.
