KUCHING: Biaramas Express Sdn Bhd (Biaramas) signed an agreement with Scania Malaysia yesterday  to commit towards reducing their fleet’s carbon dioxide (C02) emissions.

According to Biaramas general manager Lai Sin Kiong, Biaramas, the operator of Bus Asia, is the first express bus operator in Sarawak to sign the Scania Ecolution agreement with Scania Malaysia.

He said Scania has very good technology for vehicles such as buses, especially when it comes to ensuring the safety of passengers.

“Scania buses also have the technology which helps our drivers to drive more comfortably on long-distance journeys which is why we are very satisfied with Scania at the moment. We hope that Scania will continue to produce quality products because the comfort of our customers is our priority,” he told a press conference at Kuching Sentral. Before the press conference, a symbolic ceremony was performed at the Kuching Sentral bus platform to mark the agreement between Biaramas and Scania.

Biaramas currently owns 26 units of Scania buses and is planning to change all of their current fleet to new Scania buses.

Lai said Biaramas has always strived to provide passengers with a comfortable and safe ride, and efficient service during their journey.

And with Scania Ecolution, he added, the company can further their goal of reducing carbon footprint while giving their passengers peace of mind during their commute. Scania Southeast Asia sales director Daniel Tan, who attended the ceremony, informed that Scania Ecolution is a tailor-made partnership between Scania and customers that helps to reduce fuel consumption and C02 emissions through vehicle optimisation and agreed-on fuel and C02 emissions reduction targets.

“The progress to reach the targets will be regularly monitored, evaluated and discussed with the Scania Ecolution manager to ensure the desired result. Scania Ecolution focuses on reducing operating cost translated to improved profitability while fulfilling the growing demand for green initiatives.

“Scania Ecolution will facilitate the shift towards a sustainable transport system as we strongly believe that sustainability and profitability can go hand-in-hand. Only by working together can we achieve a more sustainable future.

“Under Biaramas, Bus Asia has a proven track record for delivering excellent bus service throughout the major cities within Borneo island. Amongst others, the buses travel to Kuching, Sarikei, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Limbang, Pontianak in Indonesia, and Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei,” said Tan.

Scania Ecolution stickers can be seen on Biaramas buses at Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal which signifies Biaramas’ commitment towards reducing C02 emissions.

Passengers can identify Biaramas vehicles through these stickers and are assured that with Biaramas and Scania working together, both parties are contributing to a greener environment.
