KUCHING: Police in Sarawak have not received any reports or complaints on the recently-launched FINGO mobile commerce shopping app, according to the Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID).

Sarawak CCID head Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday that none of the district CCIDs in the state are currently investigating or pursuing any cases related to FINGO.

“We have not received any cases or complaints (on FINGO),” he said.

Mustafa was asked this following confirmation by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Chong Chieng Jen on Monday on the legality of FINGO.

Chong had said that FINGO was classified under multi-level marketing (MLM) and had been issued a licence by his ministry for the sale of five products.

The app created waves when International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Dr Ong Kian Ming questioned the company’s business model despite officiating the launch as the guest of honour in Kuala Lumpur.

In a Facebook post on July 30, Ong mentioned that he attended the launch of FINGO as an effort to promote the growth of e-commerce activities and the development of home-grown mobile and e-commerce platforms in Malaysia. He, however, only realised that FINGO was involved in direct sales or MLM business during the launch.
